Integral Calculus Using Optics: an integrated approach (Veiga, RET 2003)

Research Abstract:
A new method of imaging in turbid media is being investigated, which we call polarimetric hysperspectral imaging (PHSI). Early work in this area suggests that circular polarization is retained to greater depths than linear polarization, and this may have significant implications for a variety of applications from coherent microscopy to breast cancer imaging.
Research Activities:

The participants will repeat the original experiments and conduct others to gather sufficient data to quantify our conclusions. In addition, they will have the opportunity to study this topic through literature searches and computer models, depending upon their interests and abilities. The participants will learn about polarized light, hyperspectral imaging, and light scattering. They will set up optical experiments and collect and analyze data using Matlab.
